Storm Recovery to Winter Ready

Storms leave a mark. After wind and rain, you may be left with loose siding, chipped shingles, leaky gutters and vulnerable seams that invite moisture and heat loss. But before winter slams the door on your home’s defenses, you’ve got a crucial chance to recover. Here’s how to go from storm damage repair to home winterization, with the power of T-Rex® tape backing your fixes.

T-Rex Wet Clear Waterproof Tape on Tarp

1. Damage Assessment

Once the skies clear, walk the perimeter of your home. Look for damaged shingles, cracks and gaps in siding, trim, gutters and loose flashing at the base of exterior walls. Inside, check attics and basements for any signs of leaks, drips or dampness.

Make a checklist. Prioritize the biggest risks first: roof leaks, flashing failures or open seams that can let in water or cold air.

2. Quick Patches with T-Rex® Waterproof & Repair Tape

Not every repair has to wait. T-Rex Waterproof & Repair Tape is engineered to withstand extremes. Its adhesive performs in heat or cold, and its backing creates a true waterproof seal.

- Use T-Rex Waterproof & Repair Tape to temporarily patch small holes in vinyl siding, cracked flashing or leaks in gutters

- Because it is formulated with Flex-to-Fit Technology™, it can stretch around objects, wrap around complex shapes and conform to rough edges or curves

- The clear version is ideal for discreet fixes on windows, screens or transparent surfaces

- For tougher, harsher locations (roof valleys, foundations, metal seams), go with T-Rex® Heavy Duty Waterproof & Repair Tape, with extra thick butyl adhesive and robust weather resistance

These patches are not meant for permanent fixes under heavy pressure, but they can buy you time through storms or freeze-thaw cycles.

3. Address Structural Repairs & Gaps

Once you’ve stabilized leaks, move on to permanent repairs:

- Replace damaged shingles or flashing

- Seal gaps around windows and doors with high-quality caulk or foam

- Insulate and seal your attic, rim joists and crawl spaces

- Reinforce siding panels or trim with proper fasteners and sealants before taping over

After these repairs are complete, you can use T-Rex® Brute Force as a temporary reinforcement or as a supplement to other construction materials—great for adding extra grip and stability while everything sets.

4. Prep for Winter

1. Clean & Clear Surfaces
Wash siding, gutters, roofs, driveways and decks. Remove dirt, moss and debris so repairs adhere properly.

2. Inspect the Deck & Outdoor Items
Store cushions, umbrellas and cloth items. Mend small rips with T-Rex® Clear Repair Tape, which works even on damp or freezing surfaces thanks to its all-weather adhesive.

3. Seal Transition Points
Wrap roof edges, vent boots, skylights and overhang edges. Use T-Rex® Ferociously Strong Tape to provide an extra water-resistant layer over these high-stress points.

4. Optimize Insulation & Air Sealing
Winter cold sneaks in through gaps. Use foam board, caulk and spray foam, then reinforce transitions with T-Rex® Ferociously Strong Tape. For example, seal the edges of rigid insulation or vapor barriers.

5. Monitor & Maintain
As temperatures fluctuate, revisit tape patches and seals. If a strip looks old or lifting, peel back, clean, reapply or reinforce.
